Hasinai Society Maintains Full Fall Schedule (November 2005)

Some people never take a break, and the members of the Hasinai Society are perfect examples of this. At a time when the summer pow-wow season is winding down in Oklahoma, this group has been busier than ever. After hosting an honor dance for their incoming princess, Olivia Woodward, in September, the Society has maintained a full schedule.

During the weekend of October 7th through the 9th, the Hasinai Society co-hosted at the Satethieday Khatgomebaugh (The Society of Santana's People) Annual Pow-wow in Anadarko. The program included lots of gourd dancing, and the Hasinai members were eager to participate. Several attendees at the dance commented on how outstanding the young men looked in their matching purple shirts and on how well and enthusiastically they danced each day.
Satethieday Khatgomebaugh has co-hosted several of the benefit gourd dances sponsored by the Hasinai Society.

The following weekend members of the Hasinai Society traveled to Louisiana, the traditional homeland of the Caddo people, to participate in a pow-wow in Robeline. At the dance, these young boys and girls danced on the ground once walked upon by their ancestors.

Up next is a benefit gourd dance on Saturday, November 19th, 2005. These benefits are one of the primary ways that the Society supports itself and its activities, including the annual Hasinai Summer Youth Camp, travel to various dances throughout the country, and language classes. Gourd dancing will begin at 2 PM, followed by a supper break at 6 PM. Gourd dancing will resume at 7 PM. Dance will held at the Caddo Complex Cultural Building, east of Binger. Head Staff to be announced. Olivia Woodward, 2005 Hasinai Society Princess. All princesses, organizations, and dancers are invited. Everyone welcome!
